Iona College’s “Outstanding New Organization”

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013 @ 4:51PM

The 2013 Gael Awards was Iota Omicron’s first time attending the event. The Gael Awards is an Iona College gala for achievement and excellence in leadership. The banquet room was filled with leaders from different clubs and organizations.

For the first time, Pi Kappa Phi was honored to be in attendance at this event. Even though the Iota Omicron chapter sent three delegates, the room was filled with Pi Kapps who are leaders of many other organizations, such as Andrew Casalino for the Tara Knights Society and Andrew Hastings for the Edmund Rice Society. Pi Kappa Phi’s delegates were Cameron Woods (Archon), Robb Olivieri (Secretary), and Dan Minero (Standards Board Chairman).

Pi Kappa Phi won the Student Government Association award for “Outstanding New Organization.” This was a tremendous honor for our chapter to be recognized at an event of this stature. Iota Omicron is proud of its brothers and fraternity. The chapter would like to thank ??those who have supported them throughout our chartering process in addition to those who offer their continued support of the fraternal movement.

Archon Cameron Woods shares a few words about the event:

This was a big year for the Iota Omicron chapter of Pi Kappa Phi, a newly established chapter of an already proud fraternity. We have chartered which was a big goal, but throughout the process we have worked to redefine fraternity on Iona’s Campus. A week earlier the Iota Omicron chapter won three awards through The Council for Greek Governance. These awards were Excellence in Chapter Management, Excellence in Leadership, and President of the Year.

In closing, the Iota Omicron has had a challenging yet rewarding year. We have accomplished many goals and we will continue to get better. We will continue to redefine fraternity as a lifelong brotherhood of leaders. We have started a legacy to be proud of as founding fathers of this chapter. It will only get better from here. Nu Phi.
